The Landfill Disposal program is responsible for disposal of residential and commercial refuse at landfills located in Hana, Central Maui, Lanai, and Molokai and for the co-composting project at the Central Maui Landfill.

Hawaii manages trash primarily through waste-to-energy (H-POWER) for general waste on Oahu, extensive recycling of paper, plastics, glass, and metals, and landfilling residuals, with efforts to divert green waste and e-waste, though some waste, especially hazardous materials, may still be shipped to the mainland as islands face landfill capacity issues. Different islands have varying systems, but the goal is waste reduction, energy generation, and resource recovery.

Residents can recycle cardboard, newspaper, glass containers, plastic bottles and aluminum and steel cans at any of the County's Recycling Drop Box Centers.

Where to Recycle your Electronic Waste: Please bring your items to the E-Cycling Maui ReThink Recycling Center located at 301 Hansen Rd, in Pu'unēnē, Maui. NOTE: The entrance to the facility is on Pulehu Road in between Hansen Road and Ho'okele Street.
